After many requests from our readers I am here with welcome drink ideas for our Indian kitties.Welcome drink is the first recipe that your guests get to taste. It has to be equally good as rest of the menu. Not only good, in fact it should go well according to season ,kitty party theme, festivities and taste of the guests as well. Thank god summers is here, we have ample options of cooling beverages,mock-tail drinks, fresh fruit juices and sherbets to choose from.
Today, I am going to share best 10 soothing summer welcome drinks/beverages and there recipes you can choose from-
1) AAM KERI PANA
The primary ingredient in Aam keri pana is raw mango. Raw mangoes are always appreciated for its nutritional value as they are rich source of Vitamin C,B vitamins.
The basic ingredients are : Raw mangoes- 3-4 ,Black salt- 2 and 1/2 tsp, Roasted cumin seed powder- 2 and 1/2 tsp, black pepper powder-1/2 tsp ( as per taste), sugar -1 cup, Mint-30-40 leafs, Ice cubes-12-15, Water – for proper consistency
How to make Aam keri pana: Rinse all raw mangoes,peel them, remove seeds. Give a boil in cooker (till cooked/ ready to mesh ), let them cool down. In mixture grinder, put pulp and remaining water from cooker add black salt, mint leafs,sugar, mix them well. Add 1.5 Lts water and strain mixture. Add ice cubes and serve with mint leafs. Enjoy!
2) PUNJABI LASSI
The primary ingredient in Lassi is curd or yogurt. Curd is a rich source of calcium. Which strengthens bones and teeth also, it is beneficial in dealing with osteoporosis. It also improves immune and digestive system.
How to make Punjabi lassi: In a blender jar add 2 cups of curd/yogurt, add sugar to taste,1 and half cup chilled water,1 ½ tsp rose water, few saffron (Kesar) strands and crushed cardamom ( eliachi )powder. Blend till sugar dissolves completely and have creamy thick layer of butter. Pour in serving glasses and garnish with white makkhan, chopped dry fruits and few saffron strands.
The another possible variation that I like to traditional lassi is-
Lassi with Roohafza: In a blender jar add 2 cups of curd/yogurt, add sugar to taste,1 and half cup chilled water,5 tsp rooh afza. Blend till sugar dissolves completely and have creamy thick layer of butter. Pour in serving glasses and garnish rooh afza, chopped dry fruits and few saffron strands.
3) BUTTER MILK (CHAAS)
Buttermilk is rich in Vitamin B and potassium. Very effective in fighting with burning stomach, anemia and cholesterol.
How to make Chaas: In a blender jar add 2 cups of curd/yogurt, add black salt to taste,1/2 tsp cumin seed ( jeera powder) ,1 and half cup chilled water. Blend till salt dissolves completely. Pour in serving glasses, garnish with mint leaves and serve with ice cubes.
If you cherish mint, you can also add mint paste.
How to make Jal-Jeera: In a blender jar add ½ cup green coriander (dhaniya), ½ cup green mint leaves (Pudina), ½ inch peeled ginger piece,3/4 small tsp black pepper ( kali mirch), 2 small tsp roasted cumin powder, 1 small tsp black salt ( kala namak), ½ small tsp salt, 2 small tsp sugar and 1 pinch asafoetida (hing). Blend to fine paste. Add 4 ½ cup of chilled water and few drops of lemon, mix well. Serve in pre-chilled serving glasses.
Enjoy with ice cubes !
Shikanji is very soothing and cools down your system in minutes. Hydrate your body and improve digestion.
How to make Shikanji : In a container add 10 glasses of chilled water , squeeze 5 lemon into the jar add black salt,sugar, roasted cumin powder stir till sugar and other spices dissolves. Pour in serving glasses and garnish with mint leaves.
Enjoy with ice cubes !
As we all are aware-off, Lemons are very healthy. They are high source of vitamin-C. Which helps reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin texture. Boosts immune system and improves digestion. Brings down the effect of spices in our food.
How to make Lemonade: In a container add 10 glasses of chilled water and Squeeze 2 cups of lemon juice, 1 cup sugar and pinch of salt. Stir till sugar and salt dissolves completely.
Pour in serving glasses and serve with ice cubes. Enjoy!
7) FRUIT AND ICECREAM SHAKES/SMOOTHIES
Mango Smoothie– In a blender, take 2 scoops of vanilla ice-cream and 1 cup of mango pieces add crushed ice. Blend till even consistency. Pour in serving glasses and garnish with small mango pieces.
You can replace mango with any fresh fruit available.
To improve taste you can also replace vanilla ice-cream with respective fruit ice-cream.
8) FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE JUICES
Many of you will be surprised with vegetable juices ? Well, yes! 🙂 I will come on it later let’s discuss simple fresh juices which you can offer in your kitty party this summer. Fruits juices are always first choice, as they are easily available and very easy to make. The best part is everyone loves it!
How to Make Fresh Juices: Making fresh juices is a kid’s game. All you need to do is peel, cut and get the fruits ready before you through them into blender , add water and crushed ice. Blend and voila ! Serve chilled with ice cubes.
I personally don’t like adding sugar to any fruit juice , if you want you can add sugar to your taste as well.
You can have any summer fruit of your choice. the popular ones are- Watermelon, Mango, orange, grapes,pineapple, Pomegranate etc.
Vegetable Juices: Fresh Vegetables are rich in roughage , vitamin A, and vitamin C, potassium. They help us in maintaining low cholesterol, healthy blood pressure and reduce fat.
Here, I am giving example of tomato juice and carrot-cucumber Juice you can try with different vegetable variations
Tomato-Mint Juice- In a blender take 250 gms of red tomatoes add sugar, some mint leaves ,crushed ice. Blend and pour in serving glasses. Salt and black pepper to taste ( optional ).
Carrot and Cucumber Juice- In a blender take 250 gms of both add sugar, salt to taste ,crushed ice. Blend and pour in serving glasses.
You can try- Ginger- Beetroot, Carrot-mint, tomato-beetroot, cucumber-coriander etc.
Indians are fond of sharbats and thandai in summers. Back then when there was no canned juice, tang powder available these were the only homemade summer drinks that we all get to drink to beat heat in summers. In today’s era , when everybody is short of time making homemade drinks is hassle. Though there are people who like homemade drinks, for those I am writing few popular sharabats here-
1) Gulab( Rose Petals) Sharbat- In a large container take Gulab Jal- 100 ML, Tulsi Leaves- -20-25 leaves,Mint Leaves- -2-25 leaves,Coriander Leaves – 1 table spoon (chopped) add 1 cups of water and get the mixture to boil. When boiled properly, let it cool down and blend everything in a blender and filter. In another container take Rose Petals – around 40 roses, add 1 cup water bring it to boil, let it cool down and sieve. Make a sugar syrup by adding 1 cup water and 600 gms sugar, stir till sugar dissolves, let it cool down. Mix all the three- add cardamom powder,lemon juice of 4 lemons and store in refrigerator.
For a glass serving add 2 tsp of this sharbat.
2) Amla Sharbat- Cut 1 Kg Amla into small pcs and blend to fine paste, filter using cotton cloth. add 2 tsp of preservative ( I prefer Sodium lactate). Preserve in refrigerator.
For a glass serving add 2 tsp of this sharbat with honey or black salt.
3) Khas Sharbat- Make a sugar syrup by mixing 4 cup sugar and 3 cup water. We would be needed 1 thread syrup. Mix 1 tsp of khas essence and 1 tsp of edible green color. store in bottle. For a glass serving add 2 tsp of this sharbat.
You can make different sharbats using this khas sharbat recipe. All you need to do is change essence and edible color. 🙂 You can try making orange, Gulab, Lemon, Pineapple etc.
Thadai is chilled drink full of milk and dry fruits. Let’s see how to make thandai-
Making Thandai Masala- In a blender jar add-1 tsp white pepper powder, 3 tsp Mashmelon seeds ( kharbooja seeds) , 1 tsp gulkand, 1/2 tsp cardamom powder, 1 tsp fennel seed powder, 3 tsp cashew nuts, almonds and pistachio powder, blend properly. In this mixture , add sugar syrup and gulkand. Mix 3 cup milk and shake well.
Serve with ice cubes and garnish with dry fruits. 🙂
